Any plumbers have any idea of what material this sewer line is? Pitch fibre?

That looks like Orangeburg pipe. I've seen it have those lumps while still being round.

VCP clay pipes were commonly used in CA years ago.
It looks like roots at 40 ft. plus possible pieces of the pipe.
Earthquakes and earth movements do break clay pipes.

It's possible that it's a pipe that has a cured-in-place pipe lining.
