I am in the process of installing a American Std. 60" x 32" drop-in whirlpool tub (replacing 60" x 30" std. tub), and have a few questions regarding the construction of the small support wall across the front of the tub.
In order to get this tub into the tight alcove space, my thought is to place the tub on a mortar bed, with the leveling stringers on 3 sides. Once the tub is in (but not pushed all the way into the mortar), I will insert and secure the front wall. Then will set the tub down on it. Any issues with this approach?
Also, for the wall construction, I'm planning on 2x4 construction, with cement board and tile on the top & front. Should the tub rim sit on the tile, or just tile up to it?
Thanks for any advice & recommendations!

Search for piles mortar in the search box above. Your use of the word "bed" is worrisome.
