HI Folks,
Please advise if there is a reason that a PRV cannot be installed inside the meterbox with the meter. According to our Ca licensed plumber, there is space and he would like to install the PRV in the box. That said, we are having a challenge with operations personnel at the very small municipal water company. Our next step is to discuss this with the head of the water board to get an exception.
Thank you, Steve

There often isn't room for both the meter and the PRV in the same box. Over the years I have seen plenty of PRV's plumbed in right after the meter, so someone is doing it.

For easier installation and accessibility, install the PRV out of the box. Why would your contractor want to install it inside the box?

Freeze protection while not having to provide a maintainable access in the house?

Putting it in the house has the advantage of eliminating the effects of pressure drop in the run to the house.

Reach4, you're absolutely right, that is a consideration. Coming from a place with 270 days a year with temp of 90 or more...I forgot that this poster could be from the Tahoe area.

However, is the box deep enough below freezing line? It could be, since it's the meter box.
Also, what material is the main line?
