for a company that otherwise has it together , do they have too many choices in toilet types? . like the flush system choices on the product page what? 7 choices or more dual cyclone g max etc etc
If I buy one are there a top one two or three to choose from?

Id want long bowl, 14 0r 15 inch height (not the higher height) , what water volume choice? seems the 1.6 would be preferred? many seem to be the 1.28 (do those work as well? at some point its not enough water???)
are 2 piece toilets less expensive?
do they make a dual flush thats any good or is the flush valve complicated and trouble prone?

what are all the models they sell. just style differences, like whats a transitional is that a style?

thanks

The main reason there are so many different choices is simply style - just like there are lots of different cars, some often made on the same platform in the same factory with only slight trim variations.

Their newest flushing system is the double-cyclone. It's not that the older versions are bad, it's just that the newer one has features the older one does not - better bowl wash, easier to clean.

Unless you are asleep, clean water is becoming more and more of an issue around the world, so toilet manufacturers have been working towards making them work with less and less. That can't simply be just use less water...it has to be designed for it. A side-effect of using less water is that the amount in the bowl cannot be as large because it must all be cleared out when flushed, not just diluted. So, it's a trade-off of water spot depth or surface area - one of the older 1.6g designs will have a larger/deeper water spot that is an issue with some people. But, as to evacuating the waste, even their 1g version does a very credible job.

So, unless you get their lowest price, builder grade toilet (which still works better than most other brands), any of them should satisfy you.

Consider whether this dummy is strong or will have an installer do the lifting. Consider the importance of style, ease of cleaning, and cost. Yes, 2-piece toilets are less expensive, and the individual pieces are lighter. However putting together the pieces is not that simple for the novice. How tight you tighten things is important, and you avoid that with the one-piece units. Do it wrong, and you can have a leak, you can have a wobble, or you could break something.

http://www.totousa.com/products/toilets has a finder... Click one piece or two piece. Then click Style. Choose Classic, Transitional, or Modern, and it will show the available choices. Transitional would be between classic and modern in style. There are other things you can click instead of, or in addition to, Style.

The basic you may be looking for is the CST744E
Elongated Drake with WaterSense 1.28 gallon flush. Standard height.
An option would be to have the C744EG bowl with CEFIONTECT instead of the C744E bowl.

The CST744* are my biggest sellers.

I would look at the following ones to start. All will work well. The 1.6 isn't preferred; it really works no better than the 1.28, and indeed all the newer Totos are 1.28 and basically nobody notices the difference.

CST744E -- the basic Original Drake. A value workhorse at the standard height. E means 1.28gpf.
CST744EG -- as Terry says, the CEFIONTECT coating makes cleaning a little easier, but worth it? Up to you.
CST744EGN (or EN, depending on whether you get CEFIONTECT on the bowl or not) -- the Original Drake, with a New Tank, which looks less sleek and more ornate.

CST454CEFG -- the very-popular Drake II. Comes standard with improved rinse (double-cyclone), Universal Height, and CEFIONTECT. A good value for all it offers.

PS Don't look at the Toto web site for prices. Those are list -- what a fancy-schmancy designer would charge you for the fixture if he/she was doing your remodel. Typical street prices are in the neighborhood of 70 percent of the list. Look at Terry's prices above to get an idea of a fair street price. Some places will want more, maybe some will want less, but those are fair.
