Hello everyone,

I have a leaking shower drain, which is not easily accessible from below. I have removed the old brass drain, and bought a Wingtite. Upon inspecting the pipe, it looks like there is a small gouge (probably 3/64" deep), around the area where the O-ring would sit. Now I'm concerned that it would cause a leak in this area, since the O-ring might not be able to seal properly.

My question is, should I put a thin layer of 100% silicone on the pipe, before installing the Wingtite? They recommend using dish soap as a lubricant to help the O-ring slide. I think fresh silicone would help with that as well, and might help sealing the surface imperfection.

Any drawbacks with this plan, or advice?

Thanks

If you are in no hurry swipe across the scratch with silicone let it dry hours or overnight then lube it up with the silicone not excessively and complete install .
now we are talkin less than 1/ 16th inch actually much less .045 inches vs .060 . id say doubtfull failure on this installation
