Old Plumbing Tool?

Can anyone help me identify this old tool? I believe it to be some type of old plumbers soldering jig.

my opinion---guess----

it looks like a rope holder- tightener-- for lead joints


when they poured a lead joint on a horizontal
the rope had to be held in place with something
like that

It would have been a cumbersome tool to use compared to the spring clamps used later, but the center "funnel" would have minimized lead leaking out.

It was one of my dads tools and I have had for years in a draw not knowing what it really was.... Thanks.....
