I am replacing a Delta shower faucet valve. Is there a lubricant that will help the o-rings last longer? I heard Vaseline is not good, but that WD 40 is. What do those who are knowledgeable say? Any help is much appreciated! Thank you!

Silicone plumber's grease is not bad for the rubber and it lubricates well. It is food safe. I have a tube of Molykote 111. It is very thick. A little goes a very long way. To avoid getting grease on other things, I wear nitrile gloves to apply it by hand, or I use a Q-tip.

I would not use WD-40 for lubing rubber washers and O-rings myself.

https://www.dowcorning.com/content/publishedlit/80-3256.pdf page 29 says Molykote 111 is "suitable for use with potable water under NSF 61."
