hi,

Brand new to the group, hoping someone will be able to give advice. We just bought a 3 season cottage that is about 50 years old on an island. Water comes from the lake. Currently, there is a very old piston pump that brings water into the cottage. We'd like to update it and put in a jet pump. So my question is, is a 1/2 hp jet pump sufficient, or do I need 3/4 hp? It is a 800 sq cottage, 1 bathroom (toilet, sink, shower), and kitchen sink. We are a family of 4, but do expect to have family and friends visit too. (I'm assuming this info would be helpful to answer my question).

Edit: elevation from lake to cottage is about 12 feet. distance from lake to cottage is about 75 feet

I've noticed that they seem to be available in cast iron or stainless steel...which is recommended? Google and the internet have so much info, almost too much info. I'm not a plumber; I just need to know what I need to buy. Is there anything else I need to know about jet pumps?

Specific recommendations for a jet pump including brand, type, size, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

I would recommend a J7S Goulds and a PK1A kit to control it.

Like this.

Thank you very much "valveman". I do have another question that I hope you don't mind. Out of curiosity, what is the difference between the type you suggested and the kind that have a tank already attached to it such as this one: https://www.tscstores.com/BURCAM-34...N-15-GALLONS-STAINLESS-STEEL-TANK-P45000.aspx Am I to assume that it is for smaller applications, and that tank would be too small?? Plumbing is definitely out of my league LOL.

The one I suggested is made to last. The other one is made to sell. They will both squirt water out your faucets. You will just have to replace that one three or four times as often.
