Help with Delta tub/shower valve

It DOESN'T use a "cartridge". It uses a spring and washer kit, the same a kitchen and lavatory faucets and SOMETIMES a new control unit, but that is very rare. It ALSO needs a lot of TLC when you try to remove the bonnet nut or you will end up with a two piece valve that has to be replaced.

Try to hold the brass part right behind the chrome when you unscrew the chrome bonnet, or you might damage the three tubes. Be careful.

Did this come with the lifetime warranty that my Delta kitchen faucets did? You can buy the Delta spring and washer kits in the hardware store, but you can also call Delta customer service and talk with them. If it has the warranty, they will send you the parts for free. Admittedly, it takes a few days, but free is always nice. 1-800-345-DELT

The "brass part" is INSIDE the chrome tube so there is no way to hold it when trying to unscrew the chrome cap.

If you don't have or can't find the model number, there is a procedure at Deltafaucet.com under Support to help you find the replacement parts. Or, as I say, you can call them.

RP1991 is part number from delta.

There is only ONE Delta spring and washer kit, so that is not a problem. The stem piece seldom goes bad, unless water is leaking from around the stem.
