I am buying a property that is very overgrown. It has a well and septic tank or field. How do I find the them. I was told to look for a pipe coming out of the ground but I cannot find any thing because it is so overgrown. Any Ideas??

I suppose bush hogging is out of the question since the well sticks up. The septic tank is another problem. Lots of drain fields can be located by the lush grass growing on top of them. The tank is buried and there will be no evidence of it to give you a hint other than the drain field comes from it.

I have used a probe to find tanks etc. The tanks are rarely buried more than a foot or three.

A septic tank close to the surface will usually show up as a dead grass spot in the summer, a live grass spot in the winter and the snow melts quikest there...
