Hello

I need to drill a 4" diameter hole in my basement concrete slab to put in radon mitigation.

I know where all my drain and sewer lines are, but have no idea where the water main comes in to the house.

In Ontario Canada. House built 1980. What is the risk of drilling in to the line? How far under the slab is it likely to be?

Thanks

While I'm not super familiar with Canadian code, I would imagine that there isn't a minimum depth for a water line once its within the building. If its copper it could be traced to where it comes into the home.

If you drill very carefully and stop when your through the concrete there's a low chance of hitting it. You'd have to be very unlucky.

Maybe be ready to call the city (or whatever) to shut you off if you are unlucky enough to have the water line poured into the concrete and right where you choose to drill your hole.

http://www.clickbeforeyoudig.com/ is similar to the US JULIE.
That could maybe tell you where the line approaches the house.

Also, where is your water meter? Is it in the basement?

You really should have a valve in the house to let you shut off the water to the house.
