We have a Delta Diverter Valve that has not worked correctly for some time. We tried to change the cartridge today and messed up the inside of the valve so we have no water in the house now.

Can I cap off the diverter valve and cap all the shower pipes until tomorrow when we can replace the valve?

Will doing this hurt the plumbing or fixtures in the house?

I have no idea what kind of "diverter valve" you have, but you would NOT normally have to turn the water off to work on one. And what did you do to it that it needs to be "replaced"?
