I had installed several new sink drains when we moved into our new house a couple of years ago. They are brass but plated to a brushed nickel finish. The finish came off on one of the three and the vendor generously offered to replace it. The replacement, however, had clearly been installed and removed. I'm OK with it being slightly used as it is clean and the finish is perfect. My concern is that there is some slight damage to the threads, and it will turn out to be just where the nut will sit when it's installed. The nut does run over the damaged threads without any binding. Is there any reason to worry about this?
