Hey all-
I am remodeling an old Pittsburgh toilet area in the basement and the old Standard toilet was connected to cast iron at grade in concrete. My question is: can I terminate this pipe at grade by crushing it and pouring concrete into it. That section of pipe isn’t and hasn’t been used in 50 years and it’s very rusty and brittle. I don’t think I could chip the concrete away without destroying the pipe in the process.
Sad thing is, that old toilet broke when I tried to remove it

The best way to cap off the drain is to open the concrete and cut the cast iron on the horizontal and apply a sheilded coupling and a solid cap.

Concrete isn't really a water tight seal.
