I take the sand point off of my water intake pipe once a year and clean it out.
not to sure if I am cleaning it the right way
First I immerse it in CLR and let it sit for an hour or so
then I use a garden hose under pressure to force water from the inside out
am I supposed to do it this way?
    any help would be appreciated

That should be working fine. But you might try dropping in some Nuwell tabs and adding water before pulling the sand point.

My guess is you are pulling it up from a lake and not from a hammered down well.

Good thinking! So don't put Nuwell tabs in a lake!
