Any advice on this will be much appreciated!
I'm dealing with an old (1940s) existing toilet that requires a four inch flange, due to the fact that the discharge outlet on the bottom of the base will not seat on a three inch flange. I tried. Using one of those flanges that say 4 X 3 does not work, the base of the toilet just will not seat properly. I inherited this system from a previous owner, and the toilet has to be moved a couple of feet due to a bathroom remodel.
The existing flange and soil(?) pipe are sized down from 4 to 3 inches, and the rest of the waste plumbing, including the exit from the building to the septic system, is 3 inches. My questions have to do with buying the right plumbing parts online. There are no large home hardware stores nearby to look at things!
Questions are:
What is the outside diameter of the down pipe on a 4 inch flange, and its pipe, that says it has a spigot opening? (Not a hub opening.)
Would that pipe fit into a 4 X 3 adapter coupling, which has female (hub) openings?
I know that this is the opposite way in which these adapter couplings are intended to be used, but I'm not able to convert the waste lines to four inch, and besides, the home only has two toilets, and the three inch waste line meets code for a two bedroom place which is where the home is.
This forum looks very informative. Thanks for listening...
