Hi, we live in an area that is predominatly bedrock so out well is over 400 ft deep. We have a 4" submersible pump which pumps water to the house about 15-20 feet away (about 5-6 GPM). In the basement we have the pressure tank and a 3/4 Flotec shallow well pump that pumps up about 10-12 feet into the house. Our water pressure sucks. Should we go with a bigger horsepower shallow well pump?

If you have a storage tank a jet pump is needed to pressurize the water to the pressure tank and house. But if yo do not have a storage tank, you also do not need a booster pump. The well pump feeding the pressure tank should provide plenty of pressure for the house. A 40/60 pressure switch is normal, but higher pressure are possible by just turning up the pressure switch. If you have a storage tank the pressure setting of the booster pump is what provides pressure to the house, so yes a larger pump and higher pressure switch setting would be needed. Oh and constant 50 PSI pressure as with a Cycle Stop Valve would be much stronger than just relying on the 40/60 switch.
