An alternative is to have two pressure tanks, but there does need to be at least a small one at the pressure switch. Moving the pressure switch should be easy enough if the path is accessible.
Without a CSV you do not want to have two pressure tanks with any distance between them. The friction loss in the pipes between the tanks will cause the first tank to fill quicker and the attached pressure switch will shut off the pump. Then the first tank will drain into the second tank, which causes the pump to restart. Sometimes this can happen two or three times before the furthest tank is finally filled.
You can have multiple tanks in different locations when using a CSV because the CSV fills the tanks at 1 GPM instead of full pump volume. When filling the tanks at 1 GPM there is no friction loss in the lines and all the tanks will fill at the same time.
Also if the big tank is just in the way, you could use just one little 4.5 gallon size tank if you have a CSV. Then you may have space for such a small tank without having to move the tank to a different location.
