I am renovating my bathroom which has a tub and a shower stall. I want to permanently remove the shower stall and replace that space with a longer vanity. Does anyone know the proper way to close up the shower drain since it will no longer be in use?

You would want to cap it off below the floor.

They make no-hub bands that you can cap it with.
