I have 3/4" pipe coming up through the floor to my range. Is it okay to transition to 1/2" for a couple of feet to re-position the shutoff valve? Thanks.

Why not use 3/4" for the offset and not worry about being undersized?
The $0.75 you will save going to half inch isn't worth it. Why do you need to reduce it?

It was a question of weasling the pipe in some tight quarters shared with other plumbing and electrical. Not a huge deal, but I'm finicky with my own work. Inspection is tomorrow and I've decided not to do anything unless the inspector hates what I already have there.
