We have this seldom used toilet in our basement and it needs a new rubber flapper. The design is unique in that the activator is all bass & the flapper screws on. The flapper is a shallow disk. I have attached a picture. Anyone know where can I get a replacement? If not a Eljer original replacement, what would you suggest? Thanks.

Unless you have sentimental attachment, or envision antique value, that you consider replacing the toilet with a newer one.

You may be able to replace the flush valve, but new toilets, despite using less water, tend to flush better.

I think you have several big chlorine tablets in the tank. Those are hard on rubber.

That is an Eljer Duplex toilet - very popular in 40's and 50's. You can buy a tank ball at any hardware store. However, keep the guide wires that are with the tank ball that you have right now as the Eljer tanks tend to be taller and need longer replacement wires, and the wire is already bent to fit your handle. Eljer Duplex toilets were calibrated to use less than 3 gallons (something like 2.8 gpf) of water way back then. The Eljer Duplex bowl is also almost 16 inches high - slightly higher than standard toilets.

Thanks for the info. I have tried to research the model name but haven't had any luck. The number on the inside of the tank is 1365 or 9 & build date of Oct 20, 1954.

And I realize that this toilet is a water hog, but we have never had a clog in any of our tiolets in over 22 years of living in this house which was built in 1954-55.
