Water softener had blue salty water

Last night I noticed the water in my toilet was blue. Thought my wife put a cleaner in the tank. When I went upstairs the water from the fridge was very salty . I had to spit it out . I checked the tap water and it was very bubbly. I bypassed the water softener and the blue went away and I’m flushing the water in the house . It was a little salty. does it sound like I need to replace the softener amd my wife drank a glass last night . Is there a risk in digesting the water? Why was the water blue ? i have a kenmore ultra soft 400 from “2002” . Yes , I’ve had it for quite some time with basic repairs
