.....and the white plasic ring has "hot" and an arrow - however it will only go so far as it is notched. I'm wondering....if I take out that pin, and move the plastic ring counter-clockwise in the direction of the "hot" arrow, will that do it or do I need to go farther apart with his knob?

Ok here are pictures - but this is as far as I wanted to take it apart before knowing for sure what I was doing. I need an allen wrench to get that pin out. I assume maybe I need to go farther and then take a pic? One more thing, we have no access panels in this house to get to the pipes...

One more note....it is ONLY in the showers. I have been told to turn up the hot water heater, but the dishwasher, washing machine, and sinks all get burning hot water. The showers are the only thing that don't, and it's only since those new knobs were put in the showers. There is one knob...
