I will work with 1" water heating main line soon. I have soldered many 1/2" and some 3/4" pipes and fittings. But I have never worked with 1" pipes and fittings. I heard somebody said working with bigger pipe should use better solder torch.

What I am using now is the basic propane torch (blue). Do I need to buy a better one with premium torch fuel (yellow)? How big the difference will be?

Thanks,

hj

There will be a difference, but the TYPE of torch, not the type of gas, is what will determine how it goes for you. A "pencil flame" will be almost useless unless you are not in a hurry.

Get MAAP gas kit. This is what I use.

Working on 1" pipes requires heating up the pipe in more than one spot to get good results.
