Water will not come on for 5 minutes in bath.

I have an unusual problem. My shower upstairs will turn on and the cold water will run until you turn it to hot and then nothing but a trickle comes out. Wait 5 minutes and suddenly splash! The hot water starts coming out. Obviously there's a problem because it never was like that before. Any ideas? I would much appreciate it!
