If there's only 11.5" from finished wall to center of the opening, is it impossible for me to install a Toto Ultramax? My plumber says Toto is very fussy about the distance being exactly 12". The Ultramax is the toilet I want, if possible, but I'll have to go to the Kohler Rialto if Ultramax won't fit.

thanks; what should I say to my plumber?

Thanks for the responses. Very helpful. I'd like to proceed with the Ultramax. Should I tell my plumber I'm sure it can be done (I really don't know what the adjustment entails -- what details can I provide?), or should I seek another plumber who may be more experienced with this? (I like my plumber tremendously, but I realize sometimes there can be a comfort level with certain procedures or products and not others.)

Just copy this page from the thread and show it to the plumber. Tell him of the Legendary Terry Love and he should be happy to give it a try.

Your plumber may not be comfortable installing products made in the USA.
Every TOTO Ultramax I have, has the Made in USA stamped on the box.
He should try it at least.
