My system was winterized by a firm, but as a single person, I'd like to learn to "reactivate" it myself. I thought I knew how, but can't get the system to start. Here is what I have done so far: 1) closed main drain; 2) closed pressure vacuum breaker (FEBCO) test cocks; 2) closed the isolation valve ball inlet AND outlet - the valves are now perpendicular (NOT in line with) to the pipes - I'm not sure this is right; and 4) turned on the main water (to the city supply). I then tried a manual setting on my Irritol control panel and I couldn't get any water to flow (it is plugged in and appears to have power as the LCD screen lights up). What am I doing wrong? In the past I have blown my pressure vacuum breaker so I'm a bit "spooked" about messing with the system too much. Your help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

How do you expect to get water through closed valve? I believe if you turn those ball valves to the ON position you should have water.

I was under the impression that those valves were for draining purposes. If I turn both the inlet and outlet valves on (valves are in line with the corresponding pipes), water streams out of the vacuum pressure breaker and that is how it broke previously. Additional information would be helpful.

    Turning on your system

You want the isolation valve ball outlet and both Febco test cocks closed, and the isolation valve ball inlet open. Some water will spill out of the top of the Febco as it pressurizes. If water continues to pour out of the Febco you have a problem. Once the Febco pressurizes you can open the isolation valve ball outlet.
