Hot water radiator valves--does location matter?

My new home has two-pipe gravity hot water radiator heat. In looking over the pipe layout in the basement, I noticed that one of the radiators appears to have the valve installed on the side where the water flows out of the radiator instead of where it flows in.

It also looks like a previous homeowner removed the original radiator and installed a smaller one, because there is a 6" length of pipe between where the pipe comes through the floor and where it connects to the radiator.

If that is the case, maybe when the new radiator was installed the valve was moved to the other side?

The radiator still kicks out heat, and I have bled that radiator a couple of times already due to other work I am doing. Is there any problem with a radiator having the valve on the outlet side? If so, is it worth changing if it seems to be working fine?

Thanks in advance for your help.

radiator

The one downside is that under the right conditions the radiator could still heat slightly because of convection through the unvalved inlet port.
