This has probably been talked about countless times, but I'll ask my question anyway.

I have a basement bathroom (sink / toilet) which is already below grade, so a pit is installed. This was like that when I bought the house. I later found out that the pit was not vented, and also needed a check valve to prevent backflow.

I have installed the check valve, but I still have a vaccuum problem when the pump starts, which sucks the water out of the trap in the sink. Venting the pit thru the roof is not something I want to pursue right now (although it is probably the right thing to do long term).

My question is.........if I run a 2 inch vent pipe as high as possible, and put a Studor vent on top (AAV), will that work as far as letting me keep water in the sink trap. I am hoping that when the pump starts, the AAV will open and let the pump do it's thing without sucking the trap dry. As for air being displaced as the pit fills, today it seems to be working fine so I don't think I will have a problem.

I understand all the discussions about code and locations where it may or may not be "code"......I am just looking for an answer to this issue from the "will it work mechanically speaking" perspective.

Thanks!
