Hopefully I got the name of the item right.

I had a leak (that I discovered when home) but am concerned about leaks when I travel so I got this device that mounts to my water main and can turn the quarter turn lever to turn off the water when signaled.

Issue is I think it is supposed to mount above the pipe, but my lever to turn the water on or off is "upside down" from what I expect it to be. (Otherwise the motor will mount "upside down" and not sure how well that will work.

Is there a safe and simple way to change this? Just unscrew and reattach, or will water leak if I do that? The item I am talking about looks like this http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--po-yx4Tuek/UFn3sOZIu-I/AAAAAAAAAqQ/Qk9ib4VLZpw/s1600/shutoff-valve-2.jpg (search pulled up this example photo). I want to unscrew the lever and turn it 180 degrees.

I should add, the item is yellow, labeled Apollo International, and when open "points in the direction of water flow" if that matters.

If you are gone how does it know to shut the water off? Does the remote shut-off detect a leak?
