Does turning off water main cause issues with boiler?

We turned off the water main in a vacant house we own.
Would doing so adversly affect an oil fired boiler than heats the baseboards throughout the home? The boiler is currently flashing an error and I plan to investigater further today when we visit the home.

NEVER cut off the water supply to a boiler as you cannot depend on a LWCO to be a failsafe device.

If it's a oil boiler it should not make any difference.

If there's a leak in your hydronic system then the system won't auto fill when your water is off. So you could potentially loose your heat and ruin all of the piping. On the other hand if you leave the water on and there's a leak the water would not stop running until the water is shut off.

Even on a steam boiler if there is a leak on the condensate return and the LWCO fails you really do not want any boiler dry firing.

The fuel makes no difference, wood, coal, electric, natural gas, oil, propane etc.
