In the process of cutting and replacing an 1 1/2 " pipe stub close to several fittings entering a cast iron hub the shaking loosened the lead inside the hub. I would prefer not to cut out the iron fittings, lead and oakum, replace iron pipe with PVC and use a doughnut to inset into the hub. Is it possible to use a torch to remelt the lead in the hub as it sits and thus seal the lead to the hub?

Remelting is not an option. Caulking iron is the tool to repack. We plumbers typically have quite a few variant shapes and angle ones.

OK. So just use caulking irons to tighten up the lead joint. That makes sense. Thank you.
