Bathtub appearance question

Hello folks: I moved into a home and the steel bathtub floor shows a honeycomb structure (photo attached). It is not a non-slip application. I don't know why I am seeing the honeycomb support(?) through the bathtub bottom. Is it rusting underneath or is it some other problem? Is this to be expected or should I be worried?

Many tubs come with that pattern. It's okay.

why would you think it is NOT a "non slip" feature?
