If I subscribed to every company that is going to "increase my business", I would go broke and they would get rich. One in particular charges a fee for every referral they send you, but the send the referral to several companies. They all have to pay the fee, but only the quickest one to answer, or the cheapest one, gets the job. In addition, many of the calls are "bogus", (possibly generated by the service but no way to prove it), but you still have to pay the fee.

From what I hear and know about Yodle is that they offer cheap packages that don't really do anything. I actually have 2 current clients who were previous Yodle clients who said all they received was a cheap template website and rankings for keywords that didn't get any traffic. Which suffice it to say, I'm not surprised. I can do exactly what Yodle does for probably around the same price and actually get results.

both these guys are spammers. don't listen to either one of them. they advertise in their posts. the last guy just copied/pasted info from google into another post, which didn't make any sense.

I don't know anything about yodie or the riverside plumber. In general, I know there have been a lot of bad apples in this barrel. They have a telephone salesforce hustling leads which are often customers who are far from committed to a project. You are charged for the lead, waste your time, and have little chance to land a job, or the customer expects you to submit a peanuts bid.

Just be very careful. If you have a budget for business promotion, I believe radio advertising has bang for the buck. If you have a smaller budget, simply some judiciously distributed flyers, etc. ONE good customer will multiply through word of mouth.

What IS with copy and pasting? you see a post, Google key words, find an article and paste in on every forum?
