Hi all,

I was looking for some advice on how to tackle a small above ground section of my main water supply line.

I will be replacing my old main water line (galvanized) as well as the rest of my homes plumbing (also galvanized) with pex.

The issue I have is that the supply line comes out of the ground from the supply line and enters the side of my home, about ~8 inches above ground. Knowing that I can't expose pex to light, I was considering transitioning from pex to CPVC for this small section, going through the wall, before transitioning back to PEX.

Is this a good option or is there better approach?

I appreciate any feedback,

Matt G

Your pex can be in a sleeve. Maybe use a piece of ABS pipe with long-sweep fittings, or electrical PVC conduit.

Best practices would be transition to copper for all the exposed work. Way cleaner and appropriate.
One concern that I might have is that copper would attract copper thieves. So maybe paint that copper.

Similarly, aluminum wire is not as good as copper, but it rarely gets stolen.

Should be copper coming out of the ground. I would also shield or sleeve the copper at least where it meets the ground. Someone with a weed-eater could ruin your day if it's not protected.
