You've got to admit that this is just so funny on so many levels.

http://www.citgoheatingoil.com/

You have to take your hat off to the Venezuelans on this one.

I'm not sure which is more amusing.

Chavez helping America, despite the tension between these two countries.

Or America, the richest country in the world, unable and unwilling to help its poorest citizens, so another country has to do it for them!

You should all be ashamed.

So you fell for the Citgo trap, and the madman chavez's ironic, sadistic snub. shame for you.

Shame for America for building schools in Afghanistan and nuclear containers just to be scrapped. Thats heating oil for a thousand citgo programs.

It's all dark humour, and pathetic. Chavez hugs the madman in Iran that advocates jew genocide. They both need a dose of Ricin or some exotic poison from our agents.

We all know, though, that America wants a few people to go hungry and cold to show what happens if people get lazy.

We all know it could feed and heat those people. But a lot of people here just think that the poor are out to milk the system. So they let all poor suffer, regardless.

That's really what Chavez is trying to expose here. And that in Venezuela, for better or worse, no one goes hungry or cold without some Government help.

I say let the Government here help. And if a few milk the system, who really gives a damn?

Very few people want to be unemployed. Very few people want to live off benefits. Heck, benefits are not the big bucks most Americans think they are. You'd struggle to feed yourself if you were on them.

Most people are decent and just want to earn a living and take care of their families. The Government should be there to pick up the pieces when they can't.

And if America is not man enough to take care of Americans then it looks like Venezuela will.

The King would have never let this happen.

Correct, the king would have long ago snubbed out Chavez, the freedom killer and monster of the peoples will.

Object to Chavez, and parts of you show up in every dumpster in town.

The king would have made his country the 54th or so state after Mexico, Honduras, Panama, India and the better parts of China.

NOW the king has something to work with to feed, house, and warm the poor.

You are moving past socialism into communist-anarchist territory, Ian.

Hopefully you are not applying for citizenship, You would not wish to make that oath.

Just bought a georgeous Apollo 3 way bronze valve. US made. On that we can agree.

There's nothing wrong with the pledge.

Except the bit that goes "the republic for which it stands".

Republic? It's still ours. It was stolen. I don't need to be a citizen to live here. It's all mine.

So, no I am also not a citizen.

Anyway, I don't really care about Chavez.

What I care about is why America is not helping poor Americans with their heating bills?

Our utility offers 10 to 20% discounts on electric based on income with a 5 line form.

Phone co. gives about 50% discount same way.

Maybe Chavez will add to that

My renters abandoned their propane on my advice and went to finned oil heaters and save about 300$ monthly

The government should own the utilities, then we would not suffer from their deviant behavior, and usurious, obscene profits.

I have nothing against normal profit. I do have something against a 50 year old water main breaking and the Federal Government not being willing to cough for it.

I want taxpayer money to improve the area I live in. YOUR taxpayer money.

What is the problem with that? You helping me is called so-ci-e-ty.

God would want that.

And so would the Founding Fathers.

Got a prison gang cutting all the brush and dead trees along the forest fire burned roads in this area. No chains on them though.

Fantastic program, fed funded for the guards and road dept help. Left enough firewood stacked along the road to heat a hundred houses for 2 years.

Teaches the gang bangers how to work, and no energy left at night to beat or molest each other. A little piece of China in America.

Your 2 million and growing in prisons (the largest prison population in the world) reflects everything that could be improved in America by a little more tax money going to education, healthcare and entitlements.

The alternate view, of course, is that that is exactly what prison is for....to provide healthcare, education, meals and shelter to America's most needy.

Only in America.

I'd rather use tax payer dollars to educate them as kids, provide them with healthecare and provide geneorous entitlements should they slip so now they'd be in paid employment instead, paying taxes and with no need to steal. But that is because I am not greedy.

God would want that.

And so would the Founding Fathers.

The founding fathers did not have drugs that cost $400,000 for cancer to give them 3 more months on earth.

They did not have liver transplants because that city water main worker [who never saw a water main] drank himself insensible parked behind Joes bar in the county truck all day

Founding fathers long term care was auntie and wife and kids changing his bedpan at home , without oxygen generators

Founding fathers did not get full salary after 25 years work and free heart lung and kidney transplants.

Founding fathers doctors were not greedy slugs that live for golf and money.

They didnt get free glasses, contacts, and new teeth from all the high fructose corn syrup in their MEGA-slurpies.

THAT is why you do not have water in your pipes. All the money went to entitlements and the country club for "doctors"

And by the way, when the doctor bled the patient to death in 1720, he did not have insurance that paid the patients family 6 million dollars. [4 million to the lawyer]

Better think a little harder, Ian about the practicalities of what you suggest.

Only a monster depression, a global war, and a incredible famine will bring people back to reality of the challenges of living - as "god" planned it.

Ballvalve. It really is not rocket science. The rich give a little more. And many problems will be solved.

They simply do need all the money that they currently have.

A couple of extra pennies in tax on the dollar for those earning over a US$1 million, that's all.

Of course, they'll complain about "jobs" this, and "they'll go to China" that. But America's rich aren't moving. Where to?

They're all mouth.

Tax them a little bit more and we'll all get better public services and infrastructure which are necessary prerequisites for a brighter American future. The Government does not need to cut spending, it needs to boost revenue.

I think the Founding Fathers would want a brighter American future. They each wanted to be King of that future after all.

If the English health care system works, I would be fairly certain that the doctors are on reasonable salaries and the insanely priced drugs are very limited in use.

And I just bet that overweight alcholics are not going to get a new heart, lung, or kidney. That is a needed bit of practicality to insure treatment dollars remain for the public that might respond to care.

And I would guess your system has never heard of the absurd unlimited liability and dollar rewards for errors and omissions.

New Yorker magazine: Recent, treating the homeless in emergency rooms. Outrageous costs with no rewards for patient or people. Complex and interesting issues....

http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2011/01/24/110124fa_fact_gawande

Fix all that and then start the taxing. Then it will do some good. Until then its pissing in the wind.

Since socialized gov and med seem to be working so well in GB, I notice Ian came HERE for his medical treatments. They even let him out of the home on weekends so he can catch up on his internet postings!

No. I came here for the work.

And the healthcare here is great, if you can afford it.

It pains me though to see poor American citizens not getting the healthcare or education they need because the wealthier ones are too tight with their taxes.

Unless you join the armed forces, that is. Then you get all sorts of entitlements and hand-outs that the rest of America can only dream about.

Some Americans even prefer to give their money to the church or charity which often requires a change in belief for the poor to gain access to essential services.

It sucks a little that, if you're poor, you have to believe in God here to get access to church-provided healthcare because the Government won't provide it for you.

There are other religions in other less-reputable countries that do that as well.

But this isn't Haiti is it? It is the richest country in the world.

So quit the excuses. Man up. And pay for the poor.
