Although my husband empties and bleaches the brine tank at least annually, we have a problem with a bad odor accumulating in the tank within a short time after cleaning. We live in Wisconsin and have municipal water, and we use solar salt. Is this smell normal? Does it come from impurities in the salt? What might be the cause, and how can we fix it?

You may want to try replacing the tank and associated plastic tubing.

You should be able to do the whole thing for under $40-50.00

Is it in a damp basement?

Air borne mold could be entering the tank when the brine is sucked out and air drawn in during the regeneration process.
