We recently purchased a home that had been in foreclosure. House is on well water.

House has one half bathroom where the water smells, it's not offensive, just has a smell that consumes the bathroom (sweet smell). I thought it was the toilet, so I replaced, still smells (I know it's the water, because if I drain toilet, bathroom does not smell). None of the other toilets, bathrooms, or showers smell??? Water taste great. I also dropped a chlorine tablet in the toilet, to see if the smell was possibly bacteria, no change. Also noted that there is some sediment in the new tank, happened pretty quickly.

What in your professional opinion is the next step? I know I should have the water tested, but what could possibly be causing the water in the one toilet to smell? House has copper pipes, is it possible that something in the supply pipe to that specific bathroom could be causing the smell?

It's driving me crazy. Thanks for any advice.

quote; but what could possibly be causing the water in the one toilet to smell

The normal answer would be NOTHING, and therefore you have some weird problem, and might even be describing the wrong symptoms.
