I am a relativelynew Homeowner and whenever my wife uses the washing machine, water appears in the kitchen sinks (about 6 inches high) and then subsides. This has just started over the last 4 months and slowly gotten increasingly worse.
I would love to avoid a large plumbing bill as we are struggling to keep bills paid now. Any suggestions??
Thanks

Washer causes sink to overflow

It sounds to me like your washer drain is ahead of the sink drain and the drain is partly clogged just past the sink. A washer dumps a large amount of water very quickly, so the sink would still drain OK, but when the washer cycles, that large volume of water just can't get past the clog. Get a plumber to auger the drain and stay away from the chemicals. If you have used or do use a chemical prior to calling the plumber, tell him/her what, how much, and when you used it.
