I have a Cuno one-step softner at my house. Cuno has discontinued this softner and are now discontinuing many of the parts. It is only about 3 years old and is out of warranty (go figure). It is currently working fine, but I would like to change it out before something goes wrong and I am stuck with no softner. I want to replace the head with a Clack head. I was just wondering if I will need some type of adapter, or can I just order the new head and bypass and it will fit on my current tank.

Thanks,
Matt

Well if anyone else runs across this problem, I found out you do need an adapter. It is a cuno part #fa45tx. Macclean/cuno uses a flanged tank, this adapter will get you to the threaded fitting most heads use.

I suggest you don't do anything now except monitor the feel of the water and as long as it is soft, keep using the softener. When it starts to give you hard water, then replace the whole softener with a new one with a Clack WS-1 control valve. Otherwise you end up with a cobbled together industry standard control and nonindustry standard proprietary tank with a longer then normal distributor. Or I'll sell you a new Clack WS-1.
