I need to replace the brown rubber "quarter" size grommet seal on a GE water heater. I have the rubber grommet seal but I'm wondering the easiest way to install the seal. The thermocouple and two wires go through the middle of the seal. Should I (a) loosen the thermocouple and the igniter wire and the third wire from the gas valve and try to squeeze them through the three holes, or (b) disassemble and remove the complete burner assembly and squeeze the wires and the thermocouple from the end nearest the flame? or (c) should i cut the wires and stick them through the holes and then solder/tape the wires back together? what do you experts suggest? thank you very much in advance for your suggestions.
Please see the attached pictures showing (a) my hot water heater missing the grommet seal, and (b) the new grommet seal i need to install. thanks!
