We've had a new sewer line (from our house to the street) installed, along with replacing all plumbing under our basement slab. (We've still yet to re-pour the slab.)
The sewer contractor installed a sanitary tee between the building sewer and drain near the inside wall for a cleanout. Our plumbing inspector threw a fit, first because he said the sewer contractor wasn't licensed to to the work on the inside of the building, and second, because the sanitary tee needed to be a long sweep wye. Our plumber dutifully installed the requested 4" long sweep wye.
The problem is that the long sweep wye places the cleanout too far from the wall. We'd like to keep the cleanout inside a closet, along with the water meter, and we really can't enlarge the closet due to space constraints near the stairs. (The concrete floor will be the finished floor. Ground to expose the aggregate, and then polished and sealed. Having an ugly cleanout as the first thing you'll see when walking down the stairs into the newly remodeled space would be very disappointing.)
The code covering this (from Minnesota plumbing code, 4715.1000) states:
"The cleanout at the outside wall may be inside or outside the building, and shall be made with a full “Y” branch fitting and shall extend at least two inches above grade or finished floor, except that the administrative authority may grant permission to use a flush cover in traffic areas."
Is there any other fitting I could use that would fill the code requirement, but wouldn't push the cleanout as far from the wall? (Outside the building isn't an option in our case.) Both the sewer contractor and plumber didn't think they could move it any closer. It's currently ~20 inches from the wall.
