I have these adapters on my outdoor faucet and the one just leaks out when connecting a hose. Tried taking it of but really on tight. Are these adapters needed and can they be replaced?

This vacuum breaker adapter may have a set screw that needs to be drilled out.

Easier to replace the entire spigot with a frost proof type with vacuum breaker on the top. Supplyhouse dot com has bluefin brand for under $20 bucks for the 8" and 6".
