I'm putting in a new bathroom and need to cut into existing cast iron pipe. It is about 3 inches in diameter and I have about 2 inches to work with behind it. Can I use a scissors type chain cutter for this or do I need the rachet type? Thanks.

Allie, I like the ratchet cutters best. Either should cut the cast iron just fine but my personal preference is the ratchet. If you have 2" behind the stack you should be able to get the chain around the pipe. Be careful when you snap however. I've seen more than one stack drop out of the ceiling because someone wasnt thinking before they cut.
