Howdy. I was fixing a simple leak in our outdoor faucet yesterday.
I shut off the main water line to our house but very hot water kept coming out of the outdoor faucet. So hot it had to be from a water heater.
I have no idea how to troubleshoot this.
*We did have our two water heaters replaced in November.
Any ideas why hot water would come out of an outside faucet?
Thanks so much.
Jim

If this is a single-family house, close the valve at the input to the water heater, and see if that affects the outdoor faucet.

water heater siphoned out . its a normal thing but can be stopped by closing valve and should be turned off

Hi Jeff. So it is normal for hot water to siphoned out of heaters and not to worry about it? The two water heaters are on the second floor. Due to the temp of the water I am certain it was coming out of the hot water heaters. (can't test at the moment....)
Thanks.

Yes, its normal but the vacuum relief valve on the water heater should help reduce.

On some WHs they put a little hole near the top of the dip tube to prevent the siphoning. I don't know what the prevalence of that is.
