That is not a screw, it is the motor shaft. Turn it on and go.

Jim's right. The hex wrench just frees up the disposer. I like to turn it back and forth a few times to free up a frozen G/D.

FYI, I prefer to use a long needle nose pliers and a flashlight to pull out stuff from the G/D. There's also a reset button on most disposers near the hex fitting. Sometimes it pops out when there is a G/D jam.
