I have a home that will be vacant for awhile. I have turned off the water coming into the house. My concern is, I have forced hot water ( baseboard ) heat. Does the Heater need the water to be on to function ?

No just valve the makeup water to boiler off. Might also want purchase a few electric heaters set their thermostats at a lower temp in case boiler system has a problem. Drain all water down including the water heater. Shop vac water lines out ,leave valves open. Toilets, sinks, bath tubs and floor drains pour some rv antifreeze down the traps, toilet tank, bowl and sinks.
