I have been researching and it seems that pure silicone caulk is the best for caulking between bottom of tile and top of shower base. Silicone is better resistant to mold growth. I have used silicone before but have difficulty tooling it smooth. I am looking for recommendations as to how to better smooth pure silicone of a different type of caulk I can use.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

I am far from an expert, but found that if I use as tiny little bead of silicone and smooth it with a water damp finger and minimual pressure I can get a beautiful smooth almost invisible bead. Corners present a little more challenge, but the problem is almost always too much silicone and too much pressure.

I like np1. It's very very sticky and doesn't come out of clothing or off of skin though.

Yes as stated it's almost always someone using too much silicone. Less is more, especially once you start to finger it in. A combination of a wet rag and a wet finger should make a very nice caulk joint.
