30 year old Grohe shower valve #34436 with 2” extension #47329. Cannot get cartridge out or get on/off handle off. Handle fits behind cartridge.

I have a 30 year old grohmix valve #34436 with a 2” extension #47329. I cannot get cartridge out nor handle off. The handle fits behind the valve end. There are no clips. The cartridge can be unscrewed till loose but will not come out.
