Plumber didn't center shower drain rough in under the drain hole - how big a problem is this?

Assuming you choose their preformed pan, yes, it has a perfect pitch from all sides IF the floor is level, or you can make it level first. If you attempt to level it with excess thinset underneath, you'll likely fail. This is one reason why a mudbed can be more accommodating...it can easily conform to any unlevel situation or if your drain is not perfectly centered (but the riser still needs to be entirely plumb)...but, it takes more skill to get it perfect, so there are tradeoffs.

When you take into the account the average weight per area, the foam they use is more than enough for things to survive. Throw in the rigid tiles that can help to distribute point loads, and there are probably a million or more installations around the world that are still working fine.

Thanks .... I am going there in the am.. The tile guy sounds like he knows a lot about this stuff and has
done a lot of them over the past 15 years.. I am gonna get his name to keep on file.. He is installing a
system like you spoke of and it should be no problems..

I have to open up that floor to get to the drain and I hope that goes well...
